#1 Story
One popular legend attributes the establishment of Bada Mangal to Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula, the Nawab of Awadh in the 18th century. According to this legend, Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula’s wife, Begum Janab-e-Alia, played a crucial role in the festival's inception.
It is said that Begum Janab-e-Alia had a divine dream in which Lord Hanuman directed her to a specific location where his idol was buried. Following the divine instruction, a temple was constructed at the site, which is now known as the Aliganj Hanuman Temple.
As per the legend, Begum Janab-e-Alia had a dream where Lord Hanuman asked her to dig at a particular spot to find his idol. Upon excavation, a magnificent idol of Lord Hanuman was discovered.
The idol was to be transported to the site where the temple was to be constructed. An elephant was brought to carry the idol, but it refused to move at particular place when the idol was placed on its back. This happened with three different elephants, all of which refused to move, which was interpreted as a divine sign that the temple should be built at that exact location.
The temple was constructed at the spot where the elephants had stopped, and the idol was installed there. This temple, now known as the Aliganj Hanuman Temple, became a central place for worship and celebration during Bada Mangal.
